Hmmmph.

I don't blog about controversial or political topics. I just don't. Except today I'm gonna open my mouth and rant for a minute. Maybe it's because the sec isn't here and I'm feeling a big spicy.

THIS is really making me mad.

I've never personally known anyone who has had an abortion, but I do have very strong feelings on the subject. Yes, I am a Christian but I believe, oh so very strongly, that no one, especially not some clueless MALE politician, has the right to tell me, or my daughter, or my sister or my mother, what is right or wrong to do with their body. Gonna make it illegal? That's fine w/ me. Hell, I can't even have kids any more but you can be darned sure I won't be passing through South Dakota any time in the future. Wouldn't spend a dime there to support that idiots salary.

I swear... MEN!

Just letting you know I came by and read your post. I'll keep my two cents to myself, or you can read my opinion on the matter in Tig's novel.

It wasn't just men who sponsored the bill, Kim. Julie Bartling, a Democrat, sponsored the bill as well.

From an article at www.bpnews.com:
"In speaking for the bill, Senate sponsor Julie Bartling, a Democrat, called the unborn child "a separate human being, not a piece of tissue."

"The unborn child demands and deserves protection under our Constitution and under our state laws, and I believe it's now time to abolish abortions in South Dakota," Bartling said."

The only reason I'm defending this bill is because the people who wrote, sponsored, and signed the bill were all voted in by their constituents. The judges who voted for Roe v. Wade were not, they were appointed. They weren't chosen by the people of this country to make such a sweeping decision. This is government action at work. If the people of South Dakota were wholly against abortion I doubt this bill would have happened. If indeed they do disagree with the bill then you'll see some changes of their reps come the next election.

There is also reports that each rep who voted for the bill were highly encouraged by the people of their districts.

Personally I don't care what other women choose to do with their bodies, but I do respect the legislators of South Dakota for growing a backbone and taking a stand somewhere.

Ha! Well I've got nothing else better to do I guess! lol

Well I certainly don't blame you for not making a specific trip to S.D. I mean really, who the hell wants to go there anyways? :o)

I'm really glad you can see it both ways though, Kim. You're a classy lady ;o)

This is part of the reconstructionist movement in this country. Read the blog at mainstreambaptists.org. It doesn't do to put our heads in the sand and pretend this doesn't exist. Women will be delegated to the kitchen only if these people win.

Delegated to the kitchen, grandma? Because one state has the backbone to challenge Roe vs Wade? If Roe vs Wade is overturned, as it should be because its a grossly stupid interpretation of the Constitution, abortions will not become illegal all of the sudden. The decision as to their legality will merely go back to the state legislatures- and as my wife so eloquently put above- for elected representatives to decide, not unelected judges.

If abortion on demand is the only thing keeping women out of the kitchen, then the problems for women are much worse than any woman would care to admit. Furthermore, if MALE politicians put into office by both female and male voters (remember women starting voting in 1920, or did nobody tell you?) are not allowed to decide "women's issues" because they lack a uterus that would seem like discrimination to me. After all, wouldn't it be safe to assume some of these fetuses being murdered at abortion clinics will be born as females?

I'm with The Wife here in that I personally don't care whether abortion is legal or not. I personally oppose it, but we are a democracy and as such our elected leaders should be deciding issues like this, not judges who aren't accountable to the people. The most recent poll I saw showed 48% of Americans believe Roe should be overturned and even more Americans believe there should be restrictions on abortion. Those people have a right to be heard and the women who want abortions can move to blue states.

I will also echo The Wife is saying that Kim is a classy lady. Very few people can approach an issue like this without letting their emotions get the best of their arguments. We need more civil discussions like this and less people saying pro-life Americans are putting women back in the kitchen to make me pies.
